Columns are the main carrier of a building. In order to reinforce a damaged area, column reinforcement, which we call jacketing, is done. Sheathing means to enclose on the name. In a way, it means to wrap that area and strengthen it again. Sheathing is made for steel and reinforced concrete structures. When sheathing, it should be determined whether the area you will strengthen is suitable for which purpose. The construction of both types of sheathing is of great importance as well as the design. Column reinforcement in the reinforcement project, that is, sheathing details should be done extremely meticulously and consciously. For example, concrete strength is low and deep map cracks may occur in the slab, especially in the columns. Although the reasons for this vary, the reason is one of them. In this damaged column area, damage can be neutralized if appropriate sheathing is done. A small mistake in sheathing construction may be as if the sheathing has never been done, so it should be worked with great care. At this point, our Oftek Construction company, which has been serving for many years, offers you professional service. You can deliver your columns to our company with peace of mind and secure yourself.

Mantle Types

It is examined in two parts as steel mantle and reinforced concrete mantle. These are reinforced concrete mantle and steel mantle.

Reinforced concrete mantle: It is a system that encloses the area where the column is located in the place where there is a long reinforcement skirt in the concrete. For example, if there is a 60 * 60 column, when there is a need for sheathing due to some damage to this column, the column dimensions should be larger than 60 * 60, so that this column reinforcement is called sheathing. Before sheathing is done, the shell concrete, which we call the concrete shell layer of the column concrete shell layer that you will reinforce in place, should be installed and then at least half of the longitudinal reinforcement should be welded to the existing reinforcement. In this way, both moment and axial load capacity can be increased in the column in the part where you make column reinforcement.

Steel sheathing: Steel sheathing is more costly than reinforced concrete. It is also difficult to construct. Moment transfer cannot be provided in steel jackets. It is formed by steel corners and lamellas joined by welding to the slanted column corners in place. Steel corners contribute to the axial load and horizontal slats act as winding.

In short, if you are going to do column reinforcement, you should do column reinforcement, which we call sheathing, separately for reinforced concrete and steel. Both reinforced concrete and steel column reinforcement should be extremely meticulous. Reinforcement projects should be solved with utmost care and their implementation in the field should be carried out in this direction.
